Spring Cleaning with Fantastic Services

Hello Spring!

Spring is hands down my favourite season, with it comes the promise of sunshiney days, flowers, warm breezes and a fresh start! On the homefront I always love to start with a good Spring clean, so when Fantastic Services reached out to see if I’d like to try one of their services I jumped at the chance.

I had been feeling overwhelmed like I never had enough hours in the week to get all the things done. Between juggling work, two dogs, two teenagers, a husband working from home and a small business… something had to give! The team from Fantastic Services turned up right on time with all the gear and did an amazing job of whipping my place into order!

I honestly feel light a weight has been lifted off my shoulders. Not only is my home now clean, but it’s given me time to crack on with some diy projects and given me back my creative mojo!

Getting in some help was THE best decision. I’m ready to enjoy my home this Spring instead of feeling stressed each time I walk in the door!

If you feel like you could do with a hand at your place, I’d highly recommend the Fantastic Services team. They’ve kindly offered a discount of $20 off your choice of service, use code coastalhomelove. They do all sorts of cleaning, gardening work, handyman services, pest control and more! What are you waiting for?! ūüôā

Now I’m off to start a few Spring projects!

Coastal Styling Summer Blues with Lorriane Lea

Oh Hi!

Just casually popping in to share a few little changes around here. I have to celebrate the little changes as I’m currently living in a reno zone and it’s not pretty.¬† We’re renovating our bathroom. It’s a big job. I’m most definitely over it. But it will be worth it in the end! So I keep telling myself.

In the meantime, my bedroom is looking pretty with a few new pieces from¬†Lorraine Lea. I’ve worked with Lorraine Lea before and was thrilled to team up again for their Spring / Summer campaign. Which by the way has some amazing pieces!

So you know I love blue and white and when I saw the Temple Quilt¬†I might have¬†gasped just a little, it’s that beautiful. The chinoiserie print is whimsical, gorgeously crisp … it speaks to my love of ginger jars and of course blue and white.

I’ve paired it here with a pair of navy velvet cushions, because velvet, it’s so lux and adds a lovely contrast. Also in the mix is the¬†Miami cushion. I’m all for mixing and matching and I adore the fringing and watercolour like print of this cushion.

Then to add extra layers and depth I’ve added a trio of the Isla Euro pillowcases in white.¬† These have a beautiful textured pattern on them and will go with everything! Definitely good bang for the buck.

Of course, my cushions love travelling around the house, I like to change it up by using them in the lounge and family room. I love that about cushions, such an easy and affordable way to change the look and feel of a space! Here they are posing in our family room….

I’m off now to decorate for Christmas, and maybe plump and faff with my new cushions just a little bit more! ūüėČ

Autumn Updates with Lorraine Lea

Hello Hello

Time flies when you’re having fun right?¬† Life with two teenagers and two dogs is certainly fun!¬† It’s been a long hot Summer and call me crazy but I’ve been counting down the days until Autumn for some cooler weather.¬† Spring and Autumn are my favourite seasons and one of the things I love the most is switching out the bedding for the new season and adding extra layers and pillows

I’ve teamed up with¬†Lorraine Lea¬†to add a few updates for the coming season. If you’re not familiar with Lorraine Lea allow me to introduce you…¬† They are an Australian owned homewares brand specialising in beautiful quality bedding, soft furnishings and decor items for your home. I first found Lorraine Lea a couple of years ago when I redecorated my son’s bedroom and was looking around for the perfect quilt cover.¬† They also offer an in home styling party, how fun is that… Champers and shopping

One of the colour trends for 2018 is mustard yellow, so I thought I’d step outside my usual blues and greens and try something a lil bit different!¬† With that in mind I chose the Marita quilt and coordinating Marita Euro pillowcases.¬† You’ll notice the Marita’s reverse side features a beautiful navy and white print that speaks to my classic sensibilities! ūüėČ

Marita Quilt & Marita Euro Pillowcases

I love love these Euro Pillowcases… give me tassels and an embroided pattern and I’m a happy girl!

The quilted pattern is gorgeous and I do love a quilt that is reversible, it basically gives you two looks for the price of one, gotta love that! …below is the reverse side and for a different look I’ve teamed it with the Harper Throw in Mint which is so thick, soft and cuddly!

Harper Faux Fur Throw in Mint

The lovely thing about Lorraine Lea is the extensive range they offer, it’s not all about the bedroom… I picked up a few other gorgeous decor items…

Gorgeous Rachel Vase

I couldn’t resist adding this gorgeous vase to my collection!

I love a good bath towel and my favourite are textured or ribbed ones, they just feel so much more luxurious and absorbent. The Cooper Towel is perfect, I chose this lovely silver grey colour.

Rescued by a Knight in Purple Gloss!

Rescued by a Knight in purple gloss… ¬†wait what? ¬†Well a White Knight can of gloss purple, read on and I’ll explain…

This old chair once lived in a dark dungeon… well actually the garage but who am I to get in the way of a good story. She had been hanging around for some time, ever so patiently and politely. ¬†Actually a client for whom I did a couple of painting jobs gave it to me to “have some fun with it”. ¬†As you can see her ruffle dress was a little outdated and her gold look, more than a little worn and shabby and not in anyway chic. ¬†Whilst I am a fan of gold accents and they are quite on trend at the moment, this was not a good gold and had to go!

Lucky for this little princess her Knight had arrived in the form of a handsome can of purple spray paint ūüėČ

I had received a basket of White Knight¬†paint products to test out. ¬†I’m not usually a purple fan but this was the colour I had to work with and well I kind of thought it suited this project to a T. ¬†The colour is called Gloss Purple, I would describe it as a dusty purple, it’s actually a lovely subtle purple.

I love this spray paint from White Knight, firstly its called Squirts! ūüôā¬†IMG_7471_EditedBut it doesn’t just have a cute name… it went on like a dream and gave excellent coverage. ¬†It’s hard wearing, the range of colours are fabulous and it’s so easy to use. Love that. The trick to spray painting is to do many light layers, building up the coverage. ¬†That way you’ll avoid any runs and drips and end up with a lovely finish.

I reupholstered the seat pad using a pretty linen floral fabric. Here she is rescued from her drab garage existence and ready for her debut….

This was a quick and easy transformation!  Have you a piece in your home that could use a new pop of colour?

Mini Wardrobe Makeover with White Knight Paint!

Do you ever start one job only to be distracted by another? ¬†Well that kind of happens to me quite frequently ūüėČ ¬†Case in point, I decided to go through my wardrobe to cull a few pieces. ¬†I try to do this semi regularly as things just seem to make their way in.

As I started hurling shoes and clothes into piles I was distracted by my tangled and messy piles of jewellery and accessories.  Rather than just tidying them up like a normal person, I decided I NEEDED to paint the back of my wardrobe and create a hanging display for jewellery.

Lucky for me I had a tin of delicious black paint on hand just waiting to be cracked open.  I had just received a beautiful gift basket of paint goodies from White Knight Paints as part of their #whiteknightrevive campaign.

So without further ado and despite it being almost school pick up time, I proceeded in a frenzied pace to remove everything including the shelves.  I gave it a quick wipe down and within minutes I had started painting!

This range of painIMG_6356_Editedt is called Splashes, it’s a water based enamel for interior or exterior application. ¬†It goes¬†on so smooth and beautifully!

There’s something about black paint I just love! It’s so striking and it makes the best back drop for things…. especially pretty shiny and sparkly things ūüėČ

I wish I’d taken a ‘before’ photo of the mess and chaos, but it was really a spontaneous decision. ¬†So you’ll just have to imagine cluttered shelves with a jumbled mess of stuff!

The jewellery hanger I found at The Reject Shop, I think it was $3.  I simply removed the hook and attached the black part to the wall using a couple of picture hooks. The jewellery tree was a gift from my Mum, I think it works nicely against the black.IMG_6700_Edited

I left out the bottom shelves to create a dressing table like spot, it really helped to open up the space and created the perfect spot for display.

This mini makeover was so quick and easy! ¬†Black paint, a paint brush and a woman on a mission! ¬†I love this paint so much that I may or may not of started painting something else whilst I had a wet brush in hand, stay tuned for part two! ūüėČ

Do you love black paint too?  Where can you splash some around at your place?

Thanks so much for stopping by,

Jo xx

Big Boy Room Makeover and a Giveaway from Hickory Hill Home!

My big boy is 13, I’m not sure how that happened, it seems like only yesterday I was holding his little hand to cross the road. ¬†His room had not been touched since we moved into this house about 5 years ago. ¬†The walls were an ugly shade of builders beige (eeek)…. ¬†So painting them had been on my to do list forever!

Hello Taubman’s Knight Grey!

Paint is pretty cool stuff. ¬†I’m still amazed at the power of paint and how it can transform a space or piece of furniture. For this project I chose a dark charcoal colour called Knight Grey by Taubmans. ¬†His room faces north and is upstairs, it gets great light and is a large room, so it can handle this bold colour.

Painting with such a dark colour requires a steady hand when cutting in as any mistakes are very unforgiving. ¬†Have a wet cloth at the ready just in case… I actually use baby wipes, I’m super professional like that! ;O¬†Don’t be afraid to use a bold colour, it’s only paint and can be changed relatively quickly and inexpensively!

Once I had the walls painted, I really tried to work with what I already had to style and furnish his room. ¬†We had a couple of spare shutters hanging around in the garage and these became a new head board. ¬†We’re going to get him a new king single ensemble soon so it will fit perfectly. ¬†I love the contrast of the pure white against the dark walls. ¬†The other furniture was already in his room and received a fresh coat of white paint. ¬†The little footstool at the end of the bed was a makeover I did ages ago, you can check it out here if you are interested!

I did buy the print above the bed, I love this quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson, and I hope that my boys will always have these qualities. ¬†The print is from Spotlight. The cute little birdy cushion is also new and is from Ikea. ¬†The collage on the wall is my son’s creative work, it consists of drawings, pictures and things that mean something to him ūüôā

Dusty Blue Gingham Doona Cover and Pillow Shams by Hickory Hill Home

The doona cover and pillow shams are new, they are from Hickory Hill Home. ¬†I’m very excited to be collaborating with them on this project. ¬†Be sure to read to the end for details of a giveaway!

I love the quality and simplicity of the gingham, not too grown up and a lovely contrast with the white and charcoal. Hickory Hill Home have the most beautiful range of bed linen, pyjamas, cashmere and items for the home.  You can check them out here, the doona cover is on sale right now with free shipping within Australia, plus there is a 20% discount off your first order when you sign up!

The vintage style world map is from Typo.  Basket is from Big W. Chest was a vintage find.  Lamp was from Horgans. The oar was another DIY project.

My son made the black and grey patchwork cushion at school last year! ¬†He did a really great job and this cushion was actually the jumping off point for the room! ¬†He gave me a big hug when he got home from school and saw his new space all finished. I think he’s pretty happy. Makes it all worthwhile ūüôā

Ok let’s talk giveaways! ¬†I’m super excited to be hosting a giveaway for Hickory Hill Home over on Instagram! They are giving one lucky follower the chance to win a $200 voucher to spend on their website! ¬†How cool is that?!

Pop over to @coastalhomelove on Instagram for all details on how to enter!  Gotta be in it to win it!
