Vintage Ladder Love Affair

Hello lovelies

I have a thing for many things… one of those things is vintage ladders.  I heart them.

I’ve made over a few of them and can’t resist picking them up when I see them.  I was driving by my local Salvos store after my son’s cricket game on the weekend… and I thought I’d pop in for a quick look see.  I ended up walking out with these two beauties…  and a few other goodies!  Gotta heart thrifty shopping!

Here’s the only before shot of my ladder…  in my outdoor studio 😉

I gave him a good scrubbing, and white washing.

I didn’t want to cover the original stencilling on the sides or the splatters and splobs of paint which he’d gained over the years.  White washing gave me that shabby beachy look whilst still allowing his character to shine through!

He’s quite a handy fella…. he had me hooked at first sight 🙂 I really love his hooks!

I added some numbers to the steps, sanded a little and waxed.

My plan was to sell him at my next market stall…  but I’m growing quite fond of him and his hooks 😉

Now just between you and I, he’s not my one and only…  I have another handy fella stashed in our ensuite…. he’s on towel duties.  There’s also one in the corner of our family room, casually taking care of throw rug business.

…..and then there’s the other little one I bought with this one…  thinking she’d be nice to hold scarves in my wardrobe…  mmm thinking I may have a problem ;D

Thanks for stopping in, have a great weekend

Some New Vintage Art and Some Random Disorganised Thoughts :)

Hello lovelies

Keeping up with kids, home, work and this blogging caper is tough. Well for this chick it is. I really admire so many women who blog daily… or even regularly, you guys are amazing and inspire me to do better.  I’m yet to balance it all and find blogging is the thing that gets bumped off the ‘To Do/Wish List’ {sometimes it’s sorting the washing or ironing… actually it’s always the ironing!}.

I’ve been finishing lots of projects and fun stuff, but haven’t gotten around to blogging about it. I write the posts in my head, often in the middle of the night!  They just haven’t materialised into posts as yet…. surely someone is close the inventing an App for that?  It’s not only writing posts, it’s keeping up to date with all my fave blogs too…  I’m so far behind in my reading!

Anyhow I’m working on getting more organised, I think that’s the key. I know it is. In a previous life (before kids) I was organised, mostly on time and not a crazed lunatic every morning trying to get out of the house!  My other “issue” is procrastination. Add that to disorganisation and it’s amazing that I make it out of the bathroom in the morning, let alone the house 😉

That said, I’m not beating myself up about it, I love writing this little blog and connecting with so many truly gorgeous people.  My blog is a new born, she and I (always wanted a girl), will take one day at a time, or one post at a time. Baby steps 🙂

Well that turned into a different post entirely!  {Is that normal?}  I had set out to just share a recent Vintage Art find!  So moving right along, here she is….

I found her at Vinnies, I had to pop on my potential glasses to get past her most-unattractive-gold-framers-special frame!

After a moment of focusing I was taken by her beautiful colours and she was coming home with me.

After a few coats of white paint, I think she scrubbed up not too shabby!  Amazing what a lick of paint will do… a fresh new look just in time for Spring ðŸ™‚

How do you balance work, love and blogging?  ~  Any tips for this newbie would be greatly appreciated! 🙂

Thanks for stopping by… have a great week lovelies 🙂

Oh the Places he’s been… Vintage Shipping Trunk come to Mumma ;)

Hello there!

Look what I found!  One of those pieces that as soon as I spied it in the store, I knew, no ifs or buts; this baby was coming home with moi!

Wanna hear something a little quirky or as my kids would say a little random… when I see a piece Vintage luggage goodness…  Dr Seuss’s “Oh the Places you’ll Go” always springs to mind…. Yep. I know weird right?!

Today is your day.
You’re off to Great Places!
You’re off and away!”

“You’re off to Great Places!
Today is your day!
Your mountain is waiting,
So… get on your way!”
~ exert from Dr. Seuss, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

He’s found a home for now in our lounge room, but I think he’d also work well in our more casual family room.  So there may be more travels in store for this handsome devil!

Do you have a thing for Vintage Luggage too?

Sweet Vintage dreams my friends,

Happy Vintage Days; new treasures and some whimsical art ;)

Hello Coastal lovelies!

Well Sydney has been putting on some stunning Winter sunshine of late, it inspired me to get my vintage on yesterday.  The floors needed a mopping, clothes needed a folding but the pull of some vintage treasure hunting won out!

Here’s what I found….

Some crocheted lovelies, always love some nana crochet.  Especially in fun colours.  I think yellow was the theme of the day, I don’t normally go for yellow… but may be Olympic gold fever was rubbing off on me.

A perfect and I mean just out of the box cake platter, Donna Hay no less, not that I needed another cake pedestal, but how could I pass it up?

A small Le Creuset baking dish in colour de jour… yellow!

A book, Italian Joy…  have you read this?  It looks to me a similar genre to Eat Pray Love.  Here it is below with dust jacket on…

This guy didn’t come home with me but I love how bright and sunny it is. Hello Yellow 😀

And what may be my fav find today.  A cool vintage silk screen.

I think it’s art. It may not be everyone’s cuppa tea, (I can imagine what hubby will say when he spies it, mind you this could take a while. Sorry honey 😉   but for me art is;  something that is pleasing to the beholder (check), something original (check) and something that makes me happy (check).

This guy first reeled me in with its colour… turquoise and green perfection, say no more.  I love the simple rustic frame and the whimsical randomness of the print.  It cost me $4.

I picked up the silver gravy boat recently too, I have a little collection of them.  I popped some shells into this one…  willing on Summer!

So that was my Vintage day.

Have you found any treasures lately?  What’s your definition of art?

Happy Vintage Days 🙂

A spot of Vintage Shopping warms the heart :)

Hi Gorgeous Peeps,

I was starting to have serious withdrawals of the Vintage Shopping kind; I hadn’t been for ages!

Sometimes my car just heads in the direction of my local op shops.. as though it’s on some kind of crazy auto pilot!

This is what happened on Tuesday, I had dropped the kiddies to school, it was raining and I was headed to do the grocery shopping, when before I knew it my car was making a beeline to some local op shops.   I was but a mere passenger 😉

I was particularly on the lookout this time for some vintage fabrics…  but like a box of chocolates you never know what you’re gonna get!

Here’s my loot…

A bunch of gorgeous vintage doilies.

A lime green chenille blanket.

A perfect Vintage tray (Made in Australia, Adelaide. I love Adelaide, but that’s a story for another day)

A chunky wooden lamp with a wicker shade.

I love lamp and trays, don’t know why, they just make me happy 🙂

Two ceramic turquoise bowls with new stickers on them.

A pair of silver candle sticks.
An old wooden hinged card box.

A large wicker laundry basket.
A carved wooden tray.

An Extra large magazine holder…
perfect for giant mags (huh?)…

or perfect for fabric storage 🙂

Some stripey and polka dot fabric.

And a partridge in a pear tree 😉
I have a bunch of fun sewing (read about my new BBF here 😉 and upcycing projects planned for some of this loot, and some of it is perfect just the way it is.
Have you found any vintage treasures recently?

Susan’s Makeover and why she’s not Lazy!

Hello there lovelies!

There’s a definite chill in the air as we close in on Winter here in Sydney…  I’m loving our new heater and a glass of wine on this Friday evening (TGIF!).

I have two boys who love drawing, writing and general list making… this all creates one massive mess, refer to Exhibit A below…

Exhibit A ~ Massive mess

They have a dedicated spot in our ‘library’, which sounds rather posh and like we live in a manor house… but really it’s just the dining room we don’t use, and as there’s no TV in there and it’s where they do their homework.. it got dubbed the library when we first moved in and it kind of stuck.

Anyway the library was messy, disorganised and generally drove me crazy!!

I recently stumbled across a Lazy Susan in an Op shop…

Before her makeover

I already have one, which I use in the pantry so I was already a fan of Susan, and even though I wasn’t sure exactly where I’d use a second one, I decided she’d come home with me anyway.

Here she is when I got her home… crazy fake tan and generally unloved.

As I thought about where I’d best utilise Susan, I began to wonder why / how she got the Lazy tag… who was Susan anyway?  I had to know.

So it turns out the Lazy Susan was not named after a spectacularly lazy chick at all.  The exact origin is unclear, but one theory is that the name derives from 1700s when servants were referred to as ‘Sussans’.  The round spinning food server as we know it got it’s official name in 1917… so Susie’s almost 100 years old… you go girlfriend!

Organised space = creative boys = happy mummy

I sanded, primed and painted her in two coats of semi gloss white.

Then I sorted out the jumble of pencils, crayons, textas etc etc into some tins and white pots from Ikea.

She works a treat, much better…

The boys were super excited when they got home from school and without any prompting studied for the entire afternoon!

The thought crossed my mind to check their temperatures, as I was seriously concerned they might be coming down with something 😉

I reckon every home could use a Susan!
So if you come across one be sure to be nice; she’s friendly, useful and far from lazy!

Have a great weekend lovelies!
